Spilling makeup powder on the carpet is every woman’s nightmare, especially when it occurs right before heading to work. And often, the main culprit of this incident is a lovely dream that we don’t want to end despite hearing our annoying alarm. The perfect excuse for a terrible problem, right?
The thing is that your makeup powder is excellent for enhancing your beauty and making you look wonderful. However, it’s unfortunately not the case when it comes to carpets. This product can sometimes be challenging to take off, particularly when it has time to penetrate. That’s why we’ve made a list of some fantastic tips that will allow you to remove makeup powder from the carpet in no time.
1-How to Remove Makeup Powder Excess from Carpet
1-Use a Butter Knife or a Spoon
After you’ve knocked your makeup powder on your carpet, we recommend removing all the excess as soon as possible. Simply scrape or scoop the excess using either a butter knife or spoon to remove the powder.
Ignoring this step allows your makeup powder to get deeply on your carpet, which makes it a bit tough to remove.
2-Vacuum it Away
Once you’ve taken all the excess possible, it’s time for you to take out your vacuum. Simply place your vacuum nozzle directly over the stained area and allow it for around 10 seconds to absorb all the embedded powder.
We highly suggest avoiding going back and forth as it might complicate things for you. In fact, moving forward and backward will help the powder penetrate deeper into your carpet fibers.
2-How to Clean Makeup Powder from Carpet
Combine a few drops of dish soap and cold water in a bowl. Dampen a sponge or a clean cloth in the solution, then blot the discolored area gently. Continue using this method until all the powder has been removed from your carpet.
Once the previous step is done, rinse the affected area with water to remove any soap residue. After that, blot the moisture away with a dry paper towel and allow your carpet to dry.
If you discover that you’ve messed up your carpet texture during the cleaning process, don’t worry, you can restore it back. Simply, after your carpet has thoroughly dried, pass the vacuum one more time on the treated area, which should bring back its original appeal.
If you’re unsure about the outcome of using abrasive products to remove makeup powder, use dish detergent instead. This product is also highly effective and will not harm your carpet.
Remark: To avoid damaging your carpet’s fibers and colors, use non-bleach dish detergent.
Combine one tablespoon of dish detergent and two cups of warm water in a spray bottle. After that, apply a good amount of the mixture to the discolored area and allow it to act for 5 to 10 minutes. Then, blot it with a clean cloth or dry sponge. Remember to thoroughly rinse your carpet to remove all the detergent residue.
If the initial application didn’t manage to fully clean the powder out of your carpet, you could repeat the process. The only thing we recommend avoiding doing is to over-saturate your carpet with this solution. The thing is that detergent residue often ends up attracting more dirt.
Another practical tip for tackling makeup powder stain from your carpet is with 3% Hydrogen Peroxide. This substance has the potential to be both beneficial and harmful. However, before you use it, be certain that it will not damage your carpet.
Since it’s a mild bleaching agent, it can discolor your dark carpet. You should also avoid using it on wool and silk rugs. When these precautions are taken into consideration, and you know it’s safe to use this product on your carpet, here is how to tackle the stain.
Fill a spray bottle with two cups of warm water and one teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide. Spray the mixture over the discolored area and let it sit for 5 minutes. After that, clean your carpet with warm water to ensure that no trace of the mixture is left behind.
If you don’t feel comfortable mixing your own cleaning solution, then you can rely on a carpet makeup remover. They’re good, effective, and do not require too much work on your side.
These products, however, are often abrasive. In other words, using them incorrectly or excessively might result in carpet damage. As a result, we strongly advise using only a few drops of this product while carefully following the instructions.
For further peace of mind, we recommend testing it first in a hidden part of your carpet. This way, even if it harms your carpet’s fibers, it won’t be visible.
3-How to Remove Mascara Stain from Carpet
Mascara, unlike makeup powder, requires a different cleaning method. That’s why we’ve brought you three other cleaning procedures for you to use based on the product you’ve on hand.
For this technique, you’ll need to mix one tablespoon of white vinegar for each cup of water. Blend the solution well. Then, blot the moisture with a clean cloth until the liquid is fully absorbed. After that, rinse your carpet with water and leave it to dry.
Ammonia is also a great alternative you can use to take off any stubborn stain you come across. This product offers the same benefits as Hydrogen Peroxide. However, just like Hydrogen Peroxide, ammonia also cannot be used on silk and wool rugs.
Aside from that, to create a powerful cleaning solution using this product, you’ll need to combine 1/2 cup of water with one tablespoon of ammonia. Mix the solution well, then apply it gently to the stained area using either a sponge or a clean cloth.
Allow the product to act for a few minutes before rinsing with cold water. Afterward, blot the area until all the liquid is completely absorbed and leave your carpet to dry.
Remark: According to Health.NY ammonia is both corrosive and hazardous. Also, exposure to high concentrations of this latter might result in serious health problems. As a result, we strongly advise ensuring adequate air ventilation before starting the cleaning process.
